Cabbie drags passenger out of taxi to die on road

KATHMANDU: An inhumane behavior by a taxi driver has taken social media by storm. A video has been doing rounds in social media in which a taxi driver can be seen throwing a passenger out of his cab to die on a dusty busy road. A life could have been saved if the passenger was rushed to a hospital, but the cabbie showed no mercy.

Pravin Ranjit of Gokaneshwor Municipality-4 seated his father Gopal Ranjit on taxi following treatment at the Chabahil-based Medicare Hospital. Pravin then returned home on a scooter. But, to his surprise, his father didn’t turn up at home.

Pravin was shocked to know that his father was no more after receiving a call from police from Helping Hands Community Hospital. After reaching the hospital, he came to know that the cabbie dragged his father out of the taxi after he suffered a cardiac arrest. Later police took the patient to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Based on the footage of CCTV camera police have arrested the driver of the taxi, BA 1 KHA 3851, Kamal Shrestha. Shrestha told police that he left the patient on road as he was perplexed after the patient lost consciousness. Police said he will be charged with an offence against public peace.
