Obstruction on Arun III project works fizzles out

KHANDBARI: The dispute relating to land for the under-construction Arun III project has fizzled out after the assurance of land compensation by the Investment Board.

The construction of road and tunnel obstructed by locals in Khandbadi has resumed with the assurance.

Local administration, rural municipalities, political parties, and landowners have agreed to solve the land compensation dispute at the earliest.

Stating that they did not get compensation despite the accomplishment of 30 percent of work, locals had earlier launched an agitation since last Thursday because of which the tunnel way for the powerhouse of the project at Diding was adversely affected.

Around 2,000 workers were compelled to stay without a job due to the obstruction.

It’s been three years since the beginning of the mega project, however, the dispute on the compensation of the land from Chhyangkuti to Diding has yet to be solved.

Around 200 households are expecting compensation for their lands used for the construction of the mega hydropower project.
