Nepal becomes self-reliant in cement

KATHMANDU: Nepal has become self-reliant in cement owing to regular availability of energy, investment-friendly environment and positive vibes in the construction sector.

As Nepal has become self-reliant in cement, it has helped to lower the trade deficit.

Earlier, people used to worry about getting the necessary cement for construction.

But, things have changed now. Currently, there are 61 cement factories in operation in Nepal. Some of them have started production of clinker, a raw material for cement production.

As per the latest record maintained by the Nepal Cement Manufacturers’ Association, Nepal is currently producing 15 million tons of cement.

Likewise, 8 million tons of clinker is being produced within the country.

Arghakhanchi Cement Industry has invested Rs 7 billion in cement industries in Nepal.

“Our industry has aided to make Nepal self-reliant in cement,” said proprietor and former Chairman of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry Pashupati Murarka, “Currently, the industry is producing an equal 3,000 metric tons cement and clinker.”

He said that they are running the industry at its 50 percent capacity, adding that the demand will increase in winter as most of the development works are carried out in the season.
