Media Council Bill tabled at National Assembly

KATHMANDU: The government on Thursday registered the Media Council Bill 2075 at the National Assembly (NA).

Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Baskota registered the bill at the National Assembly today seeking its endorsement.

Presenting the Bill, Minister Baskota said that the proposed bill would allow the Press Council Nepal (PCN) to monitor the country’s media.

On the occasion, he also pledged to make certain amendments to some of the provisions by holding consultation with concerned stakeholders.

The Bill once endorsed from the parliament will allow Nepal Media Council (NMC) to replace PCN.

The next meeting of the NA will meet at 11 am tomorrow.
