KATHMANDU: Minutes after arriving in Kathmandu from the United States this evening, Chairman of Nepal Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal disclosed that he was shocked to know that a ‘petition’ was filed against him in Maryland when he was still flying in the sky.

Dahal, however, expressed the gratitude that he was led to the ‘destination’ clandestinely as soon as he landed at the airport in the US.

“I was not informed about it and how I would be ushered from the airport,” he told journalists upon his arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA).

Dahal was in the US for the treatment of his spouse, Sita. She was treated at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

It should be noted that a US citizen of Nepali origin had sought a way out as how and where he should file a case against Dahal for his alleged violation of human rights during the decade-long insurgency in Nepal.

Dahal praised Nepali Ambassador to the United States Arjun Karki and his team saying, “They escorted me with extreme cautiousness. In fact, I was confident that I would not face any trouble there since the US government had already issued a ‘no investigation notice’.”

Dahal told journalists that he had some quality talks with the US officials during his stay there. “The US and Nepal had not had high-level talks for a long time. It is high time that we held such meetings with the US authorities at the higher level,” he added.
