KATHMANDU: Ashok Shanker has been elected as the National Chair of Nepal Jaycees for 2020.
The 46th general convention of the Jaycees elected him on Friday. Shanker defeated his closest rival Aruneswar Khanal. Shanker received 552 votes against 527 votes obtained by Khanal.
Bikas Manandhar came third with 487 votes. A total of 1,565 members had voted. Shanker is the former Chair of Pathari Morang Jaycees. Likewise, Bijaya Gurung, Lal Mani Bhandari, Gokul Sapkota and Shobha Kharel were elected the Executive Vice-chairs.
Nine people had contested for the four posts of executive Vice-chairs. Likewise, Krishna Sapkota, Kanchan Jha, Rama Pyakurel, Ram Bahadur Bogati, Anwar Hussein, Ganesh Bahadur Saud, Dhiraj Shahi, Rakesh Gurung, Shiva Prasad Bhusal, Manju Shah Thakuri, Bishal Thapa and Govinda Pangeni were elected the Vice-chairs.
A total of 17 people had contested for the post of 12 Vice-chairs, according to Nepal Jaycees Press Coordinator Dibu Baniya. Tek Raj Regmi was elected the General Secretary, Bimal Rimal the Treasurer and Rajendra Ghimire the legal advisor. There are 150 chapters of Nepal Jaycees in 77 districts of the country.
A total of 3,000 delegates had arrived Ratnanagar to take part in the general convention that began on December 25.
