All preparations completed for 13th SAG: Minister Bishwakarma



KATHMANDU: Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Bishwakarma has said that all necessary preparations relating to the organization and management for upcoming 13th South Asian Games (SAG) have been completed.

Nepal is going to host the 13th edition of SAG, commencing from December 1, where 26 different sports disciplines will be held in various 30 venues in and outside of the Kathmandu Valley.

The beatification process to make the inaugural of this regional mega sports event grand was underway at a war footing, informed Minister Bishwakarma here today.

Altogether 3,228 players from the SAARC-member countries including 648 from Nepal- are participating in the mega sports event that will last through 10 days.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari is scheduled to inaugurate the event in presence of SAARC-member nations’ players and officials as well as tournament directors, referees, judges, technical assistants, sports lovers and media persons arriving from different countries.

The Sports Minister said that a special cultural program will be organized at Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu at 5 pm onwards on December 1 during the inaugural.

Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, troupes of famous artists and students will perform during the inaugural, according to the Minister.

Stating that SAG was of international importance and a matter of prestige and pride for Nepal, Minister Bishwakarma said that Nepal has made preparations in view of clinching as many as medals in this game.

Furthermore, the foreign guests arriving Nepal for 13th SAG will be introduced to Nepal’s traditional art, culture and cultural places so as to promote Nepal’s tourism.

It was also shared that a large number of volunteers- as many as 2,000- will be mobilized to facilitate the participants besides putting in place more than 18,000 security personnel in several venues for ensuring safety and security during the event.
