KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has urged all parties concerned to abide by the election code of conduct to ensure voters’ participation in the election in a free and fearless atmosphere.
Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya urged the political parties and candidates to adhere to the election law and code.
EC, he claimed, is firm on making the by-election free and fair thus contributing to accountable and transparent system.
Meanwhile, the silent period began from Wednesday midnight. The silent period begins 48 hours ahead of the election.
The EC had allocated 15 days for the publicity campaign of the member of the House of Representatives (HoR) and State Assembly, while it had given 10 days for the members at local levels.
During this period, the EC will not allow any influence or intervention with fear, pressure and persuasion.
Likewise, publicity through any media is also prohibited in this period. The candidates are urged not to use information sharing via electronic and social networking sites as Facebook, Twitter, websites, Viber and SMS.
