Election fever grips CAN

KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is holding its general meeting at 1:45 pm on Friday.

The two-day general meeting will elect a 17-member new leadership of the national governing body of cricket. Former Chairman Binaya Raj Pandey and now suspended chairman Chatur Bahadur Chand are vying for the coveted post of the chairman.

The nomination will be filed at 8 am tomorrow. However, the election fever has already caught both the panels.

It is learned that both the panels have finalized the candidacies for the four major posts.

Mingma Dundu Sherpa from Province 1 is contesting the election for the post of vice-chairman from Pandey group, Binod Mainali from Banke is in the fray for the post of secretary and Upendra Bhattarai of Mahottari for the post of treasurer.

Similarly, Raju Babu Shrestha is contesting the election for the post of vice-chairman, Ashok Nath Pyakurel and Roshan Kumar Singh are vying for the post of secretary and treasurer, respectively from Chand group.

The elections for the members of the body have been kept open.

A total of 59 representatives – 39 from districts and 20 from provinces – are taking part in the election.
