Kaski: A bailey bridge has been brought into operation over Bijaypur River from Saturday evening, according to the Division Road Office, Pokhara Chief Hari Prasad Pokharel.

The newly operative bridge has replaced the earlier motorable bridge of which steel beams were defunct with cracks. The traffic of heavyweight vehicles was thrown out of gear since March this year due to decrepit condition of the bridge which serves as an entrance to Pokhara, Kaski district.

A temporary diversion was built over the River for the vehicles carrying goods above 10 tones but the diversion was also damaged by the flood leaving many such vehicles stranded at Gagangauda.

Some vehicles would opt for alternative ways to reach Pokhara through Syangja route. With the bridge now open for traffic, many stranded vehicles have begun moving towards their destination through this entrance points.

The bridge is 50 meters long and has a capacity of 100 tones. The Division Road Office had signed a contract with the Sagarmatha JJ Point Venture to build the bridge at the cost of over Rs 200 million.

The life span of this Bailey bridge is 10 years, Pokharel said.
