Modi’s thanksgiving note to Varanasi people

VARANASI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked people of Varanasi for re-electing him on Monday.

After landing in Varanasi, he embarked on a roadshow amid tight security, offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple and thanked the people for their support, Indian media reports have said.

People of Varanasi gathered in large numbers to catch a glimpse of Modi as his cavalcade passed through parts of the city.

Modi said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had faced two major challenges – political violence and political untouchability — during his first term.

He said that the mandate achieved by BJP in the state of Uttar Pradesh will give a ‘new direction’ to the country’s politics. (Agencies)
