Australian PM to visit Solomon Islands

SYDNEY: Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is set to visit the Solomon Islands next week, international media reports have said.

His visit to the tiny Pacific island comes at a time when Western countries seek to rein in China’s influence on the Solomon Islands.

The United States (US) and its allies are keen to ensure that China does not increase its foothold in the region.

The Solomon Islands of Pacific countries has recognized Taiwan while China views Taiwan as an apostate province. (Agencies)
