KATHMANDU: The Chinese Customs Department at Rasuwagadhi-Kerung has halted the import of Nepali food items like biscuits, noodles, flour among others since August.

The Chinese authority barred the food items arguing that the label and other details in packets should be written in the Chinese language also.

The restriction on export has been placed after the Nepali authority stopped the Chinese items for a similar reason. The Nepali Authority had stopped the Chinese food items with a clarification that Chinese food items had a label and other details in packets in Chinese which is not understood by Nepali people.

This step by China can be seen as retaliation to the prohibition imposed by the Nepali Authority.

According to Nepali Customs In-Charge Punya Kiran Khadka at Rasuwagadhi, Nepali food items have the label and other details in English as well apart from the Nepali language while, Chinese food items have label in Chinese language only.
