Former French President Chirac dies



PARIS: Former President of France Jacques Chirac has died at the age of 86, international media reports have said.

Chirac was the President of France from 1995-2007.

It was Chirac who cut the presidential term of office from seven years to five.

During his tenure, France abolished compulsory military service. The country also entered into the single European currency during his presidency. (Agencies)
