India’s former PM Manmohan’s security cover downgraded

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has downgraded India’s former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s security cover from the SPG (Special Protection Group) rank to Z+ security cover.

The security will now be provided by National Security Guard commandos to Singh.

The security cover, as Indian media reports suggest, has been reviewed as a professional and periodical exercise based on the threat perception.

Currently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi enjoy the security provided by the SPG personnel.

Singh was India’s Prime Minister for two terms before Narendra Modi took over in 2014. (Agencies)
