NHRC reminds PM Office to implement recommendation on Nirmala case

KATHMANDU:  The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has written to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, asking whether it implemented the NHRC recommendation on the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta.

Issuing a press release on Friday, NHRC’s Officiating Secretary and Director, Murari Prasad Kharel, informed that NHRC asked the PM’s Office to again inform the NHRC whether it had implemented the recommendation to take action against those involved in the rape and murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Pant from Kanchanpur a year back.

He reminded that NHRC had conducted the field visit and studied the effectiveness of the police investigation of the incident, and written a letter on January 23 with the 13-point recommendation and 24-point direction.

The PM’s Office is further asked why it did not respond to the NHRC letter within three months, and asked again to inform about the implementation status, added Kharel.
