Smriti Irani’s close aide shot dead

NEW DELHI: A close aide of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani was shot at Baraulia village of Amethi late Saturday night, Indian media reports said.

Surendra Singh, who was shot by some unidentified assailants at his own residence, succumbed to his injuries hours later, police said.

Singh’s family members have blamed Congress workers for the incident, which took place after Irani won the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi. (Agencies)
