Nepal, Russian sign military agreement

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov have agreed to sign an agreement on military and technical cooperation.

Minister Gyawali is currently in Moscow.

Without elaborating, Lavrov said there are many good things about the agreement. “We have agreed to sign it soon,” he said.

He said that Russia would supply helicopters like MI-17 to Nepal, which he claimed would be useful for the country.

Minister Gyawali, meanwhile, said Nepal was hoping for Russia’s assistance in receiving a full membership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
