Leicester City owner ‘declines’ to pay £7.9m insurance claim

LEICESTER CITY: The owners of Leicester City, King Power, have said that they will “decline” to pay £7.9m in compensation to the family of a woman who died in the helicopter tragedy outside the Premier League side’s stadium last year.

Nusara Suknamai was in the helicopter when it careered out of control and crashed next to the King Power Stadium last October.

The family of Nusara had filed a claim against for the estate of the club’s former owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who also died in the crash, for £7.9m in damages.

Nusara was an employee of King Power, the huge Thai travel retail group.

A statement from King Power said: “King Power had provided Nusara’s family with all legal support and assistance, including a claim against insurance after the accident.

“However, the family accepted only statutory and welfare payments but denied other assistance offered.”

Nusara’s family said they have received £1,980 towards funeral fees. Their legal team had earlier been offered £40,200 but declined the offer as it meant they would have to waive their right to future insurance claims.

Five people lost their lives in the helicopter crash after cockpit pedals had disconnected from the helicopter’s tail rotor.
