Death toll from Gulmi landslide climbs to 13



RUPANDEHI: The death toll from a landslide at Satyabati Rural Municipality of Gulmi district has reached 13.

The death toll reached 13 after a body of eight-year-old Tara BK of Satyabati Rural Municipality-4 was found in course of removing landslide debris.

The landslide triggered by incessant rainfall took place at Limgha and Thulo Lumpek areas in Gulmi district on Monday night.

Injured Karishma Taramu and Dhani Taramu of Thulo Lumpek have been airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment after two days as they have sustained head injuries in the incident, said chairperson of Satyabati rural municipality, Parishwor Dhakal.

Around 350 households have been affected by landslide and they have been taking shelter at community schools.

An arrangement of lodging and food has been made to those taking shelter at Shree Ram Secondary School. Locals of Singdi village have been taking shelter there as the village is at a high risk of landslide.

Twenty quintals of rice, two quintals of pulses and one quintal of beaten rice have been taken to Thulo Lumpek by helicopter on Wednesday evening as roads have been obstructed at landslide-hit areas.
