Attempt to clear smart driving licenses backlog hits a snag

KATHMANDU: The mass printer which the government had ordered for have not been dispatched yet. The government had forwarded the process of purchasing the mass printers through global tender last year.

The mass printer machines were being imported to remove the delay in printing and distribution of smart driving licenses.

The term of the agreement for the supply of mass printer expired last Sunday.

Department of Transport Management’s director-general Kumar Prasad Dahal said they have been egging on the contractor company regularly for the prompt supply of the machines.

The Department is purchasing the printer machines through Madras Printer Pvt Ltd. Director-general Dahal said they plan to bring the printers as early as possible.

The Department stated that the printer machine will be brought into regular operation after about a month of their arrival as time would be required for their installation, trail printing and other tasks. The mass printer has the capacity to print 500 cards per hour.

Along with the printer, the Department has forwarded the process of purchasing one million cards.
