Bangladesh cops kill three Rohingya traffickers

DHAKA: Bangladesh police on Tuesday killed three people allegedly smuggling 15 Rohingya Muslim refugees to Malaysia.

Police killed three suspects in a clash near Bangladesh’s main refugee camp, media reports have said.

Around 900,000 Rohingya has in 2017 fled a military-led crackdown in Myanmar have been living in Kutupalong — the world’s largest refugee camp — and in other temporary settlements in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar.

The traffickers fired on police on sensing police presence, and police responded, according to a police official.

The refugees, who have been rescued by the police were sent to two different camps. Police also retrieved three local-made guns along with 15 rounds of ammunition. (Agencies)
