Foreign channels taken off air

KATHMANDU: Foreign television channels in Nepal have been taken off air in protest to the Advertisement (Regulation) Bill.

Internet and Digital Television Coordination Committee and Nepal Cable Television Association have closed distrubution of the foreign channels broadcasting advertisements for 24 hours starting at 3 pm on Monday.

They have been protesting the bill that bars foreign channels from broadcasting advertisements.

They have argued that the implementation of the policy will cause a severe drop in revenue collected by the government though downlink permissions and from cable television distribution sector and will hit Nepal’s feeble economy further.

Indian broadcasters have already said that they can’t provide a clean feed to Nepal as it economically and technically not viable.
