KATHMANDU: Images of some leaders receiving a guard of honor have gone viral on social networking sites, of late. It has ridiculed the attitude of leaders that carry traces of past monarch.

It is normal for President and Prime Minister to receive such kind of guard of honor on special occasions. However, those images shared on social networking sites are ridiculous and shameful as the postures of the leaders give an air of monarchs during the Panchayati regime.

The people’s impression towards the politics and politicians is becoming negative and that the photos have been shared lay a pungent satire on the politicians’ attitudes and manners.

Some widely shared images are:

In this image, people are lining up in an open space which looks like a newly built ground. They seem like guests as they have garlands on them. In the middle lies a tall table where a man is seen receiving an honor. Some people are observing him from behind as if he were a march.

Such images have become viral on social networking sites these days where some leaders are seen standing on a wooden tool wrapped in a red piece of cloth. He is none other than Parshu Nepal, mayor of Mahalaxmi Municipality of Dhankuta district.

Another leader is also receiving honor standing on the high-raised wooden tool wrapped in red piece of cloth. He is Ambar Bahadur Gurung, provincial lawmaker of Okhaldhunga representing Nepal Communist Party.

The other widely shared image of the similar nature is of Mohan Kumar Khadka, provincial lawmaker of Okhaldhunga (B).

Similarly, President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s photo is among those shared on social networking sites.

The image shows she is standing on a rectangular red piece of cloth in the middle of the black-topped road near a temple.

Similarly, Chief Minister of Province 7  Trilochan Bhatta is walking on a red carpet placed on the road with a sense of glory as if he were a monarch.

Few days earlier, Arjun Narshing KC’s image was widely shared on the social networking site. KC, in the image, is standing on a red carpet and receiving honor from five policemen.

These images have been shared for thousands of times in an irony that leaders have been embodying the same attitudes and manners that were exhibited by the past monarchs. It is no longer acceptable, people say.
