Nirmal Purja climbs 6 peaks in 4 weeks, sets new world record



KATHMANDU: Nirmal ‘Nims’ Purja, 35, a former member of UK Special Forces, climbed Mt Makalu on Friday morning. With the ascent, he has climbed six of the world’s highest mountains, above 8000 meters, in just over four weeks. It has set a new world record.

He also completed the first phase of his ambitious mission of conquering world’s top 14 mountains within a period of 7 months.

He climbed Mt Annapurna on April 23, Mt Dhaulagiri on May 12, Mt Kanchenjunga on May 15, Mt Everest on May 22, Mt Lhotse on May 22 and Mt Makalu on May 24.
