Wrong to associate MCC grant with military alliance: Mahat

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat has said that it is wrong to associate the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant with the military alliance.

Leader Mahat has said so at a time when the ruling Nepal Communist Party is in a Hamletian dilemma whether to endorse the MCC grant or not.

Meanwhile, Mahat also urged the parliament to endorse the grant agreement letter held between the Nepal government and the MCC at the earliest.

“The MCC is being rumored to be a part of Indo-Pacific Strategy established by America. It is absolutely wrong. Hence, it does not have any associations with the military alliance. We should receive assistance as per our country’s policy,” said Mahat.

The MCC is a bilateral United States foreign aid agency that provides grants to all the poor countries across the globe that uphold democratic norms, freedom and human rights, clarified Mahat.
