157 inmates fall sick in Ilam jail

ILAM: Around 157 inmates languishing in a jail of Ilam have fallen ill at once.

Jail authorities informed that the inmates have witnessed various health complications for the last several days.

This has worsened the problem as the disease turned out to be an epidemic. According to Pradeep Shrestha, in-charge of the jail, the inmates are suffering from fever, chest pain, headache, and vomiting.

It has become tough to provide the treatment, he said. Moreover, the prison is congested that it has become difficult to deliver necessary treatment service, according to Shrestha.

Doctors from Ilam Hospital were brought to jail to provide treatment services to ailing patients.

Shrestha said that the number of patients rose to 157 on Sunday from 78 on Saturday.

Ilam jail now has a total of 260 inmates, including 237 male, 21 female, and two children. The prison, however, has the capacity to manage only 100 male and 25 female.
