NCP Standing Committee to decide on MCC today

KATHMANDU: The ongoing Standing Committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) will take place at 11.00 am on Sunday.

According to party spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha, the political report jointly presented by chair duo KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is likely to be passed today.

The meeting will also endorse the statute amendment proposal tabled by general secretary Bishnu Poudel.

Chair Dahal had responded to the quarries of SC members on the political report while general secretary Poudel addressed the concerns on the statute amendment proposal in yesterday’s meeting.

While clarifying the issue, chair Dahal said the opinions of SC members were fruitful to strengthen the party thoughts and make government performance further effective.

Similarly, the SC meeting on Sunday will take a decision on Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact grant to be provided by the US government to Nepal.

The SC members are divided over the MCC issue as some are arguing not to accept the grant while some are standing for the same.

The meeting was divided on the understanding of the issue whether it was a part of the Indo-Pacific Strategy or merely a grant for infrastructure development.

Meanwhile, the secretariat meeting also took place to further clarify the agendas for discussion in the Standing Committee meeting today.
