Three killed in Brazil plane crash

RIO DE JANEIRO: At least three people were killed and three others injured on Monday when a small plane crashed onto a street in the southeastern Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, local media reported.

When the single-engine Cirrus SG20 fell on the street in a residential neighborhood in the capital city of Minas Gerais state, it hit three cars which immediately caught fire. Witnesses reported several explosions, and all the four vehicles were completely destroyed by the time firefighters managed to put out the fire.

There were a pilot and three passengers aboard the small plane. A plane passenger, an occupant of one of the cars and a pedestrian were killed, and the three wounded were the plane’s pilot and passenger and an occupant of a car, all with serious and extensive burns, local authorities were quoted as saying.

Authorities said the small plane had just taken off and was headed to Ilheus, a beach town in Bahia state.

Media reports said it is the second time this year a plane crashed onto the same street. In April, a small plane crashed into a house gate, killing the pilot.
