Villagers on the outskirts of Kathmandu wait winter to ride bus

KATHMANDU: Is it development delayed or sheer irresponsibility toward commoners when the villagers in the vicinity of the federal capital, Kathmandu, complain they wait for winter to ride a bus?

“Shame on the Kathmandu city,” exclaimed Jit Bahadur Tamang, a local from Nanglebhare, north-east outskirt of the Kathmandu Valley, adding, “Although it is Kathmandu, the federal capital city, we need to give piggyback to take sick ones to the hospitals. There is a road, but no vehicles!”

The locals from Nanglebhare of Sankharapur municipality have been facing this adversity since the monsoon began. If anyone falls sick, the villagers have no access to vehicles to take him/her to a hospital at Jaharsinghpauwa.

When it is monsoon, the roadway from Kathmandu to Melamchi via Sankhu and Jaharsingpauwa is no worth to use. The road is worn out- full of potholes and mud in the rainy time. The people from Keraghari in the vicinity have to walk up the hill for an hour to catch the bus. Bir Bahadur Tamang shared that with the disruption of transportation, it is difficult for their access to school and health post as well.

Mud and dust are normal on the road, said another Santosh Chaulagain, adding, “We wait winter to have comfortable bus ride.”

No passenger buses are operated at Palsephedi and Nanglebhare during the monsoon.

Admitting the sorry state of the road, a people’s representative, Santa Bahadur Waiba, said the road at Ghattkulo section of Chabahil to Malamchi via Sankhu would be repaired soon.
