Nepal announces squad for ACC U-19 Asia Cup



KATHMANDU: A national cricket team has been selected for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka on September 5-14. The 15-member team is led by Rohit Kumar Poudel.

The team members include Rit Gautam, Paban Sarff, Mohammad Asif Sheikh, Sandip Jora, Bhim Sarki, Kishal Malla, Rashid Khan, Kamal Singh Airee, Surya Tamang, Sagar Dhakal, Hari Bahadur Chauhan, Khadak Bohara, Lokesh Bam and Pratish GC. Nepal is scheduled to play the opening match with hosts Sri Lanka.

Nepal is placed in Group ‘B’ alongside Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to the match scheduled published by the Asian Cricket Council. Likewise, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Kuwait are categorized in Group ‘A’.

Nepal will play its second match against Bangladesh on September 22 and final match of group round against UAE on September 24.

Top teams of both groups will make it to semifinals. Nepal qualified for the match by winning the title in the ACC U-19 Eastern Region held in Malaysia three months back. Nepal had beaten Hong Kong by six wickets in the finals of the match.
