2 killed after being crushed by temple slab

PHIDIM: Two people died after being crushed by the ceiling of an under-construction temple at Bharapa of Hililhang Rural Municipality in the district on Monday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Jagat Bahadur Rai and Rudra Rai. They were crushed to death as the concrete slab of the under-construction temple caved in after the iron pipes and props supporting the slab were taken off, said Inspector Anil Kumar Paudel, District Police Office, Panchthar.

A team of police has been deployed in the incident site for rescue. They are trying to retrieve the bodies of the deceased.

According to Paudel, the concrete slab broke down since it did not set well even though it was built 20 days ago.
