KATHMANDU: A total of 69 people have died while 343 were injured in various incidents of disaster in the previous two months. The casualties were reported in the month of Baisakh and Jestha of the lunar calendar.
According to Nepal Police, Disaster Management Division, of them 23 died after being struck by lightning , 13 due to high altitude sickness, 10 in incidents of fire, eight due to storm, seven in attack by wild animals, four in landslides, one due to an epidemic and three from other incidents of disaster.
Likewise, in the same period, property worth Rs. 993.4 million was destroyed in various incidents of fire, worth Rs. 19.7 million in floods, Rs. 1.34 million due to landslides, worth Rs. 2.3 million in lightning and Rs. 49 million in storm, said Chief of the Division, SSP Dilip Kumar Chaudhary. The Division that works for disaster management has a 1,322 member force.
State disaster management battalions have been established in all the States. The division has been working for primary aid, search and rescue, relief and rehabilitation. It has also been providing training on various aspects of disaster management.
