Nepal’s 26 Karate players at Int’l Open Karate Championship

KATHMANDU: Twenty six players under different age groups from Nepal will be taking part in different categories in the International Open Karate Championship at Pataliputra Sports Complex in Patna, the capital of India’s state of Bihar.

Rupa Rana, Dil Maya Koirala, Bipin Rana, Santu Tharu, Chhiring Gurung, Dil Bahadur Budhathoki and Sandip Chaudhari are competing in the 50kg, 55 kg, 50kg, 55kg, 65kg, 70kg and 75kg weight group respectively in the senior (above 19 years) age group.

Similarly, Aman Soti Magar, Suman Pariyar and Sanjaya Chaudhary are competing in the 50kg, 60kg and 70 kg, respectively, in the under-19 (junior) group while Shivani Basnet, Bipin Gurung, Sunil Rawal and Roshan Rana are competing in the 50kg, 55kg and 60kg weight group under the Under-17 (Junior) age group.

Under-14 years age category, Isha Saru is competing in the 40kg weight group, Aakriti Rana in the 50 kg weight group, Priyanka Thapa in the 55kg weight group, Sahil Gurung in the 35 kg weight group, Jeevan Pun in the 40kg weight group, Milan Shreesha in the 45kg weight group, Prasun Shahi in the 50kg weight group, and Saroj Chhetri in the 55kg weight group.

Likewise, Aditya Chhetri is competing in the 20kg weight group, Bibek Thakuri is competing in the 25kg weight group, Gaurab Poudel is competing in the 30kg weight group and Amisha Pokhrel is competing in the 30kg weight group in the Under-10 (kids) category.

Before this, the Nepali team led by the Japan Gojuryu Karate Do Mission Association had won 14 gold medals in the International Open Karate Championship organised in Poona and 17 gold medals in the South Asian Championship held in New Delhi, India in 2017.
