Transportation resumes on Hetauda-Kathmandu road

HETAUDA: Transportation on the road section of Hetauda- Kulekhani-Phakhel-Kathmandu, the shortest route linking Tarai to the central capital, resumed on Sunday morning. It had remained obstructed after it was hit by monsoon landslides at several places.

It took 10 days to clear off the landslide debris to bring the road back to full operation, the District Administration Office, Makwanpur said. The major landslide occurred near the Mahalaxmi River at Indrasarobar Rural Municipality and other mini landslips were removed.

However, the risk of landslide again hitting the road remains as rain continues, according to Chief District Officer Asman Tamang. “We have taken precautions towards that end. Some dozers have been kept standby.”

During the disruption, the Trihubhuvan Highway, a relatively longer route to link the Tarai to the central capital, was used as an alternative to it.
