Mahara produced before court



KATHMANDU: Outgoing Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, arrested in connection with an alleged attempt to rape case, has been produced before Kathmandu District Court on Sunday.

District Attorney Office will seek an extension of his judicial custody as the process of recording his statement is yet to be completed.

The law enforcement agency started recording his statement at the District Attorney Office today. He was taken from Norvic Hospital to record statement.

Earlier on Tuesday, Kathmandu District Court had remanded Mahara to 13-day in judicial custody starting from the date of arrest.

Mahara was arrested from his official residence in Baluwatar on October 6 after Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him for allegedly raping Roshani Shahi, a female employee at Parliament Secretariat.

Mahara is currently admitted at the Thapathali-based Norvic International Hospital after complaints of hypertension.
