NRB instructs banks to ensure Nepali language option in ATM

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Nepal’s central bank, has urged banks and financial institutions to ensure easy access and use of Nepali language for Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) transactions, for users’ convenience within 30 days.

The NRB issued the notice to the banks and financial institutes after users’ complaints that Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) cards were facing problems since most of the ATMs do not have an option of Nepali language.

The NRB has stated that any financial institutions defying the instruction would face action as per the Payment and Clearance Act, 2075 BS.

The NRB said around 4 million 71 thousand people regularly use ATM services nationwide.

Likewise, some 5 million 960 thousand people have acquired the ATM cards.
