KATHMANDU: The Patan High Court on Thursday ordered that the outgoing Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara should be kept in jail to serve his judicial custody for an attempt to rape.

A joint bench of Judges Nahakul Subedi and Tek Bahadur Kunwar upheld the order of Kathmandu District Court while responding to a review petition filed by Mahara.

In the petition, Mahara had sought his release on general date.

With the order, Mahara has to stay in jail until the court delivers a verdict on the case.

The outgoing Speaker is currently at Dillibazar Jail.

Mahara had moved Patan High Court with a review petition challenging the Kathmandu District Court’s order to send him to jail in an attempt to rape case.

Mahara has been accused of attempting to rape a female employee at Parliament Secretariat which he has been denying.

A rape case was filed at Kathmandu District Court against Mahara demanding seven and a half years imprisonment.
