ICC continues suspension of CAN

KATHMANDU: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has gone with its decision to suspend the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN).

The Thursday’s annual conference meeting of the ICC Board took place in London, England did not enter into the agenda of lifting the CAN suspension.

The ICC had on April 25, 2016, decided to suspend CAN, citing increasing government interference in it. The frequent efforts to get the suspension removed had turned unsuccessful. Despite the ICC action, Nepal is playing the international cricket matches under the ICC surveillance.

Similarly, the ICC Board meeting has suspended the Zimbabwe Cricket Board with immediate effect for increasing political inference in it. The Zimbabwe Cricket Board has been accused of acting against ICC Constitution Article 2.4 (c) and (d).

With the suspension, ICC all grants to Zimbabwe have been frozen. Zimbabwe is presently in economic crisis.  The ICC Board has given an ultimatum of three months to the Zimbabwe Board to address the issue.

Besides, Croatia and Zambia Cricket Board have been suspended for the same reasons while Morocco has been expelled for failing to meet the criteria.
