Around 8,600 Nepalis living as refugees worldwide: UNHCR



UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has said around 8,600 Nepalis are currently living as refugees in various countries. Around 9,000 others have applied for asylum, it said.

In its report ‘Global Trends: Forced Displacement in 2018’, the UNHCR agency said a total of 8,589 Nepalis are currently living as refugees. Likewise, it said around 9,084 Nepalis seeking asylum across the world.

The report further said that a total of 20,808 people are currently living as refugees in Nepal. A total of 55 people are seeking asylum in Nepal, it said.
