Telephone users reach 42 million in Nepal

KATHMANDU:  There are some 42 million customers of telephone services in Nepal.

As per the latest record maintained by Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA), there are 41.1 million customers of mobile service.

It should be noted that Nepal’s population is around 30 million.

The data show that a person is using more than one type of telephone service in Nepal with telephone density reaching 142 percent when compared with the population.

Some 800,000 customers use PSTN service and 1,742 use satellite phones.

Data states that Nepal Telecom has the most number of 23.1 million users which is 55 percent of the total users. While Ncell has a 40 percent market share with 16.6 million customers.

Likewise, 9.54 million Nepali use internet services. As per the record, 15.1 million use 3G/4G in mobiles, 400,000 use ADSL service, fiber, radio wifi and WiMAX among other internet services.

In that, private internet service providers have 3.2 million customers in fiber and radio wifi services.

There are 1.1 million customers of NT ADSL service. Some 45,0000 use fiber and 89,000 customers use WiMAX, according to NTA.
