BIRGUNJ: Rangers on duty and timber smugglers have exchanged fire in areas of Barminar and Manawa in Parsa district on early Monday, informed Bishista Narayan Kurmi, a spokesperson of Divisional Forest Office, Parsa.
Acting on a tip-off that the timber is being smuggled in the forest area, a squad of rangers had been deployed, said Kurmi, adding, “The timber smugglers fired two rounds of shots and our rangers also fired three rounds of shots in retaliation.”
The incident took place at 2 am today. The smugglers, however, managed to escape.
Meanwhile, rangers have confiscated four logs of oak threes, four cycles and two sets of woodcutting equipment from the incident cite.
