Police fire rubber bullets at Hong Kong protesters

HONG KONG: Police in Hong Kong have fired rubber bullets and tear gas on Monday to disperse anti-government protesters trying to flee from a university where hundreds were hiding with petrol bombs and homemade weapons.

International media reports said dozens were trying to flee the Polytechnic University.

Protestors on Sunday blocked major roads and a bridge was set on fire. A police officer was also shot by a bow and arrow.

Several have been arrested near the university on Monday.

Meanwhile, protestors stopped traffic and forced stores and shopping malls to shut. (Agencies)
