India bans e-cigarettes

NEW DELHI: Indian’s Union Cabinet has given the approval to ban e-cigarettes, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Wednesday.

According to her, the ban means everything from production, manufacturing, export, import, sale, distribution, transport, storage and to advertising of e- cigarettes.

Indian media reports have, however, said that the ban is likely to have a budgetary impact of Rs 2,028 crore.

Minister Sitharaman said that e-cigarettes were, in fact, promoted as a way to get smokers out of their smoking habits, but reports have shown that several people are addicted to it. (Agencies)
