Embossed number plate project likely to risk Rs 4.54 bln

KATHMANDU: The case regarding the embossed number plate is sub-judice in Supreme Court. Dispute over whether to put the embossed number plate in Nepali or English alphabets is underway since the 14 months, which is likely to put over Rs 4.54 billion at risk.

According to a report in Naya Patrika, Nepal had awarded a contract of installing embossed number plates to the vehicles on May 29, 2016 to Decatur company, a joint venture of Bangladesh and United States of America, under boot model.

According to the agreement, the company would have to fix embossed number plates to as many as 2.5 million vehicles within 60 months. However, the embossed number plates have been fixed only to 3948 vehicles so far.
