Pressure mounts on Hong Kong leader

HONG KONG: Joshua Wong, Hong Kong’s most prominent student activist, has asked Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam to step down.

After walking free from prison, the 22-year-old activist has currently become the face of the 2014 pro-democracy protests.

People have gathered on the streets today as well against a controversial bill that allows extradition to mainland China. Analysts have said that Wong is likely to increase pressure on Lam to resign.

On Sunday, around two million people rallied against Lam. However, police claim that around 338,000 people were on the streets. Despite the suspension of the bill, people have continued to protest demanding Lam’s resignation. (Agencies)
