Bulgarian mountaineer dies while descending from Mt Lhotse

KATHMANDU: A Bulgarian mountaineer died while descending from Mount Lhotse on Friday afternoon.

Alpinist Ivan Yuriev Tomov breathed his last at Camp IV while descending from the summit of the world’s fourth highest mountain.

Tomov, who had scaled Lhotse without oxygen and Sherpa support on Thursday morning, was hit by severe altitude sickness.

Ivan had climbed Manaslu in 2017 and Broad Peak in 2014.
