KATHMANDU: Swayambhunath Temple and Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square — the two famous UNESCO world heritage sites — will be linked through a heritage trail showcasing Nepal’s rich and unique history and culture.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has prepared a ‘Heritage Trail Master Plan’ to connect two significant touristic destinations through a two-kilometer-long trail.

The trail will boast various 20 heritages including temples and shrines, traditional stone spouts and other heritages. The master plan will be unveiled on Thursday coinciding with the World Heritage Day. Before the official unveiling, a rally will be taken out from Bhuikhel, Swayambhu to Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square.

Chairman of KMC-18 Nuchchhe Kaji Maharjan told Khabarhub that the heritage trail was proposed for the route as it connects two famous heritages at the shortest distance.

“Tourists visiting Swayambhunath and Hanuman Dhoka can reach two renowned heritage sites by walking. These two heritages were chosen to be connected through the trail as it has many temples and shrines, traditional stone spouts and other heritages,” he said.

The master plan for the heritage walk has been readied to promote local heritage, increase the flow of domestic and foreign tourists and contribute to the economic well-being of the locals.

KMC will place signboards carrying information about heritages, showcase paintings, and mural in the heritage trail. The Metropolitan will also carry out works of repairing and conversing heritages falling on the trail. Art galleries, libraries, and tourist information centers will be established.

KMC Spokesperson Ishwarman Dangol said the Metropolitan has prioritized the works of documentation and conservation of cultural heritage. Seven heritages of Kathmandu Valley have been listed as UNESCO world heritage site and among them, four are within KMC.
