WCL T20: Chitwan begins with a win



CHITWAN: Chitwan Rhinos began with a win in the Women’s Champions League (WCL) T20 cricket tournament that began on Wednesday.

In the inaugural match held at TU Cricket Ground Kirtipur, Chitwan defeated Kat Queens Kathmandu by 5 wickets.

Put into bat, Kathmandu could muster only 92 runs by losing all wickets in 20 overs. Rashmi Chaulagain top scored with 34 runs followed by Saraswati Chaudhary, who scored 15 runs.

Santoshi Chaudhary of Chitwan took 3 wickets while Rekha Rawal and Kabita Gautam took 2 wickets each.

In reply, Chitwan surpassed the total in 18.3 overs at the loss of 5 wickets. Suman Khatiwada was the highest scorer with 29 runs while Pyari Chaudhary remained not out with 24 runs.

For Kathmandu, Iswari Bista took two wickets while Sangita Rai, Laxmi Saud and Sarswati Chaudhary took one wicket each.

A total of five teams are competing in the tournament that will run until October 24.

The winner will walk home with a cash prize of Rs. 700,000 while the runner-up will win Rs. 300,000.

The best cricketer will win a TVS scooter and 50,000 rupees in cash. The best batswoman and best bowler will receive a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 each.
