International Mountain Museum in Pokhara attracts tourists

POKHARA: The International Mountain Museum in Pokhara has been gaining popularity in recent times.

The museum has been an important tourist attraction to lengthen the stay of tourists, both foreign and domestic ones.

This mountain museum showcases all mysteries of the mountains and illustrates various aspects of mountaineering tourism, mountain activities and mountains that occupy over 25 percent of Nepal’s landmass.

This tourism spot situated at Ghari Patan of Pokhara has been attracting researchers, students, and adventurous tourists since its inauguration on February 5, 2004.

More than 2.1 million visitors have so far observed the museum, said Rishi Ram Poudel, the Chief Administration Officer of the museum.

According to him, the number of tourists from SAARC-member countries stands at more than 176,000 while those visitors coming from other foreign countries have been recorded at over 250,000.

Over 932,000 Nepali students have visited the museum so far. Likewise, around 700,000 Nepali visitors have visited the museum.

According to Poudel, the Museum has collected over Rs 200 million in revenue from the sales of tickets.

The museum has also wall climbing facilities.
